Kathleen W. Yeater
Director and Conductor
Kathleen Yeater served as the Director of Orchestras and string specialist in the Southern York County School District for the 32 years. Her teaching responsibilities included students in grades 3 thru 12. During her tenure, the Susquehannock High School Orchestra and the Susquehannock String Quartet were selected to perform at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association State Conference several times. Mrs. Yeater’s students were frequent members of the PMEA District 7, Region IV/V and PA All-State Orchestras. During the years of the alternating of National and All-Eastern States Orchestras, there were 10 consecutive years that at least one of her Susquehannock students was in each of these higher level orchestras. No other school in the state of PA had such a record. Many of Mrs. Yeater’s students remain active musicians; working as teachers, performers, and conductors.
Mrs. Yeater is a graduate of West York High School, and of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has done graduate study at Penn State University, Villanova University, Vandercook College of Music, and The University of the Arts. Mrs. Yeater was a member of the York Youth Symphony Orchestra. She is currently in her twenty-second year as director of the York Junior Symphony Orchestra. The York Junior Symphony has performed at the PMEA conference under her direction. The orchestra has also placed first on many occasions, receiving Superior ratings at competitions. Mrs. Yeater served for 16 years on the board of the York Youth Symphony Orchestra. She has been a member of the York Symphony Orchestra for 38 years, has served as personnel coordinator for the York Symphony Orchestra, and is first violinist in the Salem String Quartet.
In 1996, Mrs. Yeater received the National School Orchestra Director of the Year Award, an award given to one individual in the nation. Mrs. Yeater is past-president of PADESTA (PA & DEL chapter of the American String Teachers Association) and past- president of the Pennsylvania chapter of the National School Orchestra Association. She is a recipient of the Citation of Excellence given by the Pennsylvania Music Educators’ Association, and has received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the South Central PA Joint Council for School Improvement. In 2000, Mrs. Yeater was selected by the School Band and Orchestra magazine as the Outstanding Music Educator for the state of Pennsylvania. In 2003, Mrs. Yeater was honored by PADESTA/NSOA as the recipient of the Outstanding Orchestra Director in the states of Pennsylvania and Delaware. The Rodney Miller Distinguished Service Award, presented by PMEA District 7, was awarded to Mrs. Yeater in 2009, and in 2014 PADESTA presented Mrs. Yeater with the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding contributions to the cause and orchestra education and performance in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
Mrs. Yeater and her husband Bob live in York. They are the parents of four daughters, and have four granddaughters.
Mrs. McDaniel holds a B.S. in Music Education from Messiah College. She is currently the Middle and High School Orchestra Director for Conewago Valley School District in New Oxford. This is Mrs. McDaniel’s second season as assistant director of the York Junior Symphony. She enjoys sharing her love of orchestral music with students and watching them grow as musicians. She also enjoys the challenge of learning new music herself and performing in ensembles. Mrs. McDaniel plays viola with the Carlisle String Quartet, and she has played on with other orchestras in the area including the Gettysburg College Orchestra and the York College Orchestra. Mrs. McDaniel lives in Biglerville with her husband, Travis.
Brass/Woodwind Ensemble Director
Mr. Curtis H. Crone is in his 23rd year as Director of Bands at the Red Lion Area Senior High School. His responsibilities include preparing students for public performances in Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Small Ensembles, and Pit Orchestra for the All-School Musical. His other teaching duties include Music Theory I, Music Theory II, and Instrumental Classes. In May of 2017, Mr. Crone was named a Quarter-finalist by the Grammy Foundation for the 2018 Grammy Foundation Music Educator Award presented each year. During his tenure at Red Lion, his high school groups have performed nationally in the Hollywood Christmas Parade and most recently during “Fiesta” in San Antonio for over 750,000 spectators. Before coming to Red Lion in 1995, Mr. Crone taught a separate Sixth, Seventh and Eighth-Grade Middle School Band and a Sixth-Grade Unified Arts Class in the Cornwall-Lebanon School District in Lebanon, PA and briefly taught Junior and Senior High School Instrumental Music in the Newport Area School District. Mr. Crone graduated from the Red Lion Area School District in 1990 and from Millersville University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education where his undergraduate instrumental focus was Bb Clarinet and Bass Trombone. He is married to Mrs. Christine E. Crone, a clarinetists and President of the Red Lion Area Board of School Directors. They have two children, John, 17 years old and Kirstin, 13 years old and are members of First Presbyterian Church in York. In December of 2000, Mr. Crone completed his Master's Degree in Education from Penn State University. Outside of school, Mr. Crone is a freelance musician who performs with the Spring Garden Band and Spring Garden Stage Band of York and is an avid Major League Baseball fan who enjoys baseball statistical analysis. Mr. Crone is looking forward to working with the talented York County musicians in the York Junior Symphony Orchestra.
Jared Conway is an Implementation Consultant with Oracle. His journey with the York Junior Symphony began 20 years ago. He is a 2001 graduate of York Suburban, and had participated in the York Junior Symphony, York Youth Symphony, and the York Symphony from 1994-2001. From 2001-2004 Jared was stationed at Marine Barracks Washington DC and was a member of “The Commandants Own,” the USMC Drum and Bugle Corps. Jared was the percussion instructor/arranger for the York Suburban High School Drumline/Indoor Percussion in 2005, and from 2007-2010. He has been a member of the Hanover Lancers Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps since 1997, and a member of the American Originals Fife & Drum Corps since 2008, also serving as Percussion Instructor and Business Manager. In 2011, Jared was a member of the Baltimore Ravens Marching Band, and served as section leader and drumline instructor. While Jared’s degree is in Business Management, his heart is with music, whether on the street, on the field, or on stage. Jared lives in Baltimore, MD with his wife Jennifer, daughter Gracelynn, and son Jeremy.
